40: When Life Becomes Larger Than the Problem

Sometimes I think about people who cannot live long because of illness.

Or people whose lives are disrupted by war, poverty, or circumstances they never chose.

They may have dreams.

Plans.

Things they wanted to do.

But reality does not allow it.

There are situations in life that cannot be controlled by effort, intelligence, discipline, or positive thinking.

They must be faced.

That thought gives me deep sympathy.

It also gives me perspective.

I have had difficult situations in my own life.

For a long time, I focused strongly on those problems.

My view was narrow.

And when the view is narrow, one problem can fill the entire sky.

But gradually, something changed.

My world became wider.

I began to see more than the problem.

The difficult situation did not disappear.

But it no longer occupied everything.

This taught me something important.

The problem did not necessarily become smaller.

My life became larger around it.

When I see people facing realities far harder than mine, I realize again how much I have been given.

These are not small things.

They are blessings.

For many years, I searched for meaning.

Those questions are important.

But now I sometimes feel that meaning is secondary.

Acceptance comes first.

Some realities cannot be explained immediately.

Some situations cannot be fixed.

Some losses cannot be made reasonable.

Before asking life to explain itself, perhaps I need to first receive the life that is here.

Acceptance is not giving up.

It is stopping the useless fight against what cannot be changed, so energy can return to what can still be lived.

Rigid meaning says:

“I can only be happy if life becomes this specific shape.”

Flexible meaning says:

“Wherever I am, what can I receive, love, learn, or cultivate here?”

That flexibility creates freedom.

I used to need life to take a certain shape before I could feel peace.

Now I am learning to receive life wherever I am.

The world is still uncertain.

Problems still exist.

But life is broader than any single problem.

And when I remember that,

gratitude becomes possible again.
